How well do you feel you completed the requirements of the week’s assignments?

I feel that I have completed each assignment to the best of my abilities. Unfortunately I was unable to do any daily creates that involved videos and one of my videos did not turn out how I anticipated. Overall, I believe I followed the ds106’s ways to make videos, which I thought to be an important aspect of the past couple of weeks of assignments.

What gave you trouble? What did you enjoy most? What did you learn?

I certainly had trouble with the assignment that required Conversing with Yourself. I had noticed many students using jump cuts in order to give the appearance of talking to themselves, but I wanted and try to follow what I believed to be the assignments true intentions. However, something went wrong in the post edit process, which caused even more trouble and I was unable to fix it.

I enjoyed reenacting the viral video with my roommate the most. We had a blast reenacting this and we couldn’t stop laughing for most of the video.

I learned quite a few things these past couple of weeks. I learned Morse Code and how to make a video that looks like you’re talking to yourself, which were both quite fun! I also learned the importance of editing audio and video separately. It was much easier to edit the audio in Audacity and then match it up with the video in Movie Maker than it was trying to do it all in Movie Maker. Audacity is truly a great tool!

What would you do differently? What questions to you have?

The only thing I would have done differently this week is watched the saved version of me conversing with myself before emailing it to me. That way I would have gotten the chance to fix it while at my friend’s house and perhaps the video would have turned out better.

Is there any explanation for what happened in the video? It worked perfectly in iMove but then became all jumbled after I saved it as a .mov.

What are some of the larger issues surrounding your work? Cultural/Societal implications?

As stated before, I realized how much better editing works when you separate the editing of audio and video. I also realized that there can be so many stories to be told with just subject, you just have to choose the story you want. For example, the Pumpkins Walking video didn’t have to be scary. The video could have been about two pumpkins dancing up and down the stairs, but by adding the scary music rather than happy dancing music, it completely changed the story.
