“Write a blog post and see if you can figure out how to embed a flickr set into your blog post. Write about the reason why you selected those photos. Write about the story you are trying to say with any of them.”

I picked these photos to make a flickr set because I personally think that they are my best photos that I’ve taken. I went through a thousand photos and only thought a few of them were my best, that was a huge shock to me. I honestly thought that there would be more since I had so many to choose from, but I realized when looking through them that I had a lot of room for improvement. My photo subjects should be more interesting and my lighting and angles need to improve.

One of my favorite photos is in this set is a picture of my sleeping dog. I picked this one because he looks so darn cute and because there’s a story behind this photo. He was quite old and barely able to walk around, but he was still the sweetest dog in the world and he always looked at peace when he was sleeping. I know it’s so hard for any pet owner to watch their animal grow old, but it’s moments like the one I captured that makes it all worth it.  Those moments when my pets seem like they are in pure bliss, are the times I will remember most.

Another favorite photo of mine is the one of the copperhead snake. I remember my heart was pounding when I took that photo because I was so excited to have the opportunity to get one so close! Of course I wasn’t as close as you might think. I was three or four feet away, which still did not ease my parents worries or anger. Also, the little guy was only about six inches long. Yeah I know, supposedly the smaller ones pack the most punch but I still wasn’t worried. It was all about getting that awesome photo (I was being completely idiotic). Actually, if anyone was going to get bit, it would have been my friend that I was hiking with. We were almost at the end of the hike, heading back to the car when she almost stepped on him! She screamed and started running, but I couldn’t pass up the opportunity. This was an extremely dumb idea and I do not suggest that anyone ever tries this. I was quite lucky to not have been bit. However, I did feel like one of those National Geographic photographers and the crazy things they do to get their amazing pictures.

My next favorite photo within this set is the last one with the incredible sun rise coming through the trees. This was taken on Christmas morning a few years ago and what I consider to be the most beautiful Christmas morning I have ever seen. There was a thin light fog everywhere and it was all so picturesque. I’ve never seen a morning like that since.

For much of photography, it’s all about those perfect moments for the perfect picture to be captured. Not every photo is going to be exactly what you had hoped, but then there are a few that turn out better than expected. This is how I feel about these photos; they all turned out much better than anticipated. The best thing to do to become a better photographer is to keep practicing and practicing is what I intend to do. My next goal is to improve my film photographer skills (hasn’t come easy for me).

Christmas Morning

Creating a flickr set was quite simple once I watched the tutorial given to us. I just followed all of the directions on the tutorial and in no time I had my own “Best Photos” album. Then to embed the set into my blog, all I had to do was copy and paste the link to the set. Super easy!

  1. Your photos are truly phenomenal. The lighting and focus and how you capture the moment are so well executed in your photography, it’s absolutely amazing. I also appreciate the little anecdotes you include in your post, which help us know more about the picture and to appreciate it more greatly. The photo I like the most is either the one of your dog or the one from Christmas morning. But really, you picked an amazing set of pictures to represent your best work. #talkingpolack106

    • Wow! Thank you so much for the huge compliment. I really appreciate it. I think it’s important to give people some background information about some photos so they can get the full story. #talkingpolack106
